From a recent Oregon Dept. of Transportation (ODOT) Update:
ODOT has activated a new gate at the exit from eastbound Interstate 84 to Multnomah Falls that will close automatically when the parking lot is full,as measured by automatic traffic counters and will re-open once the capacity declines significantly.
When the gate is closed, visitors will need to stay on I-84 and return to Multnomah Falls when the lot has re-opened. Visitor counts are highest in the middle of the day while counts are less in the early morning or late afternoon.
One could use thesmall parking lot on the Historic Columbia River Highwaybut it isoften full on busy days. Two large message boards will notify eastbound motorists when it is closed, one at Benson State Parkwest of Multnomah Falls and the other before the exit to the falls. You can also check before you start your trip to the Fallswww.TripCheck.com.

Our local Citizen Patrol (CP) volunteers are gearing up for the busy summer season. We recently lost 2 of our members and the Citizen Patrollers could use your help! CP members patrol the gorge area parking lots and trailheads to help reduce vehicle break-in and other crimes. They also patrol the school and participate at community functions when requested. Members are asked to commit to only 4-hours per month or 48-hours per year. Some training topics include: "Confrontational Simulation", Disaster Response, Patrol Tactics, Driver Safety Cone Course, Radio Communications, Human Trafficking and more. If you're interested, please contact Deputy Graziano listed below. Further information and a video link can be seen at: http://corbettoregon.com/news-and-events/citizen-patrol/

Per Commissioner McKeel's Office:
Commissioner McKeel has proposed a $60,000 set aside contingency fund in the Multnomah County budget for this upcoming fiscal year starting in July 2014.She has created this fund to help clean up the Sandy River Delta and provide better outreach and care work for our homeless and camping populations in the recreational site while also providing our Sheriff's Office the necessary funds and support to clean up the very dangerous hazards you have all talked about for months at the safety meetings.
