Hello Corbett Citizens and Affiliates,

I’ve attached the May crime log along with a scam letter that was sent to an elderly woman in Springdale.

May was the busiest month yet (since tracking began) in terms of reports written.  Vehicle break-ins increased at the trailheads.  A vehicle break-in is documented as a “Theft and/or Criminal Mischief”, this implies that a suspect likely broke a vehicle window or popped a door lock causing damage (this is the Criminal Mischief).  And then of course there’s the theft.

I’ve also attached a scam letter that was mailed anonymously to an elderly woman in Springdale.   The letter states that “Safer Neighborhoods Now” will be in the area  between June 15th and June 26th to fingerprint firearm owners and to register and photograph firearms.  This letter is completely false! The letter was tri-folded and was mailed with an adhesive stamp.  The elderly are particularly vulnerable to these types of scams and some scammers can be very forceful and/or convincing.   No one should be asking to come inside your home to take your fingerprints or register or  photograph your guns!  You are asked to call 911 or the non-emergency#, 503-823-3333, if someone does show up at your residence for this cause.

The National Night Out (http://www.nationalnightout.org/nno/) is on Tuesday August 4th  from 5-8PM at the Springdale Community Center.  Local resident and realtor Michelle Smith is the organizer.  Michelle is offering local  civic minded community members or business owners to set up an info table at the event.  This is a free event and there is no charge for setting up an info table.  Her email is michellecsmith@johnlscott.com and her cell is 971-221-9655.  Everyone is encouraged to attend and bring a favorite potluck item!

Thank you,
Deputy Joe “Rocky” Graziano
