Multnomah County seeks members for Comprehensive Plan Community Advisory Committee

Are you a property owner, resident, or business owner within rural Multnomah County who would like to be involved in guiding the direction of future land use and transportation activities in Multnomah County’s rural areas? If so this is your opportunity.

Multnomah County is seeking volunteers for a new Community Advisory Committee (CAC) that will assist with updating the county’s Comprehensive Framework Plan and Transportation System Plan. The plans will establish the county’s official policies regarding land use and transportation issues for the next 20 years or more.  The plans also provide direction for zoning code revisions and capital improvement projects that will implement the policies.

The CAC will include community stakeholders representing a variety of interests and viewpoints. CAC members will represent rural county residents and stakeholders who may be affected by the land use and transportation planning outcomes of this effort. The CAC will be responsible for helping to formulate policies that will inform the County Planning Commission and County Board of Commissioners about desires and priorities for the county’s future.

Inclusive and equitable community input is a key value for Multnomah County leaders in helping to shape and inform decisions. CAC members will be expected to represent the county’s interests as a whole while bringing the perspective of their particular area or group to the table. They will also be expected to seek input from others on issues as they arise in the process. The committee is expected to meet monthly starting in January 2015 with a goal of being completed by January 2016.

CAC members must be a resident, land owner, or business operator within unincorporated Multnomah County who have:

The ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse perspectives
A willingness to contribute to successful group work as a team player
A strong interest in and understanding of public involvement processes
The ability to attend a meeting of 2-3 hours every month, plus preparation time for the meetings; additional subcommittee meetings are possible; attendance at other public involvement events is desirable

There are a limited number of seats on the committee, which will include 12 – 15 members. Individuals interested in serving should complete and submit the application form by November 14, 2014.  County staff will review applications and contact those selected or not soon thereafter. An application form is online at www.multco.us/landuse/committees or can be obtained at the Land Use Planning Office, 1600 SE 190th Avenue, Portland, Oregon. More information about the project is available at the website www.multco.us/compplan.
