Corbett Fire District invites kids to a “wet down” for a new fire engine.

On Oct. 13, the Corbett Fire District will host an Open House at the Corbett Fire Station
Noon until 3:00PM. Directions here: https://goo.gl/maps/HkrGBaLwbmK2

There will be a chili feed, address signs available for half price to community members, fire engine rides, a presentation of the Hieni Ziegler Award to a community member, a fire department demonstration of the Jaws of Life, The Northeast Multnomah County Community Association will host yard games for children, and a “wet down” of a new fire engine.

The fire service has a history of traditions and customs.
A “wet down” is celebrated by many departments in which members of the community welcome a new fire engine by spraying it with water. This ritual dates back to the 1800s when horse drawn pumpers were used to extinguish fires. After a fire, the firefighters tired and with a dirty pumper, would return to the station. The community that lived around the station would “wet down” the horses, wash the pumper, and push the pumper back into the station.

Corbett Fire District is inviting all kids to wash our new Springdale engine and help to push it into the station in order to officially put it into service. This is scheduled for 1:00PM.

National Fire Prevention Week is scheduled for the week of Oct. 7-13th

The Corbett Fire District has a number of activities planned for the community. During the days of Oct. 9-11 the members of the department will be at the school (grades Pre-kindergarten to the fifth grade) teaching fire prevention. Each student will receive a backpack that will have home fire safety information printed on the backpack.
