Title: browning trees in the Corbett area
Post by: EMSWCD on April 23, 2013, 11:35:07 AM
Mike Haaskin, one of the stewardship foresters with Oregon Department of Forestry, took a drive out to the area and in addition to visual evaluation of the trees he took some pictures.  He sent a description of the symptoms and photos to the ODF plant pathologist and entomologist.  They all agree that the cause appears to be abiotic, that is caused by environmental factors not by an insect or microbe.  Their theory is that the dry fall we had weakened the trees and made them more sensitive to the desiccation of the east winds.  He will continue to keep an eye on the trees and would like us to contact him if we notice any changes.  He believes the trees will put on less growth this year but will be fine in the long run.  Please contact me with questions or if you notice any changes: julie@emswcd.org
