August was a typical busy summer monthfor the deputies. The chronic parking problems on hot days kept deputies busy issuing parking citations and towing cars along the Sandy River. Although one deputy reported writing over 60 parking cites in one day to the most obvious violators, many of the motorists still parked in front of of many of the "no parking" signs.
Deputies conducted a succesful undercover car prowl sting in which two subjects were stopped with likely stolen property and tools for breaking into vehicles.
The Citizen Patrol has been a great asset in patrolling the parking lots and trailheads this summer. Several locations in Springdale sustained broken windows due to BB gun vandals. The cases are still be investigated.
We received a report of a "very tan" white male in his 50s driving a 2000s light blue Toyota pickup with a matching canopy atthe Corbett School several weeks ago. The man was reportedly exposing himself. The man and vehicle were not located. If anyone sees this vehicle, please attempt to safely get a license plate# and forward to Deputy Graziano.
We'll soon have a new tool to help remind motorists to maintain a safe speed. A speed trailer.It's currently in the county shop. A patrol car will have a trailer hitch installed to move it to key locations. In Springdale near the Big Bear Market, I was informed that two dogs were struck along the shoulder (off the roadway) in two separate incidents. Motorists had attempted to go around (on the right) of stopped or slowing cars. One of the dogs was died.
Fox12 News showed a night-time video clip of some teenagers in front of the Big Bear Market with one of the teens lighting a fire in an exterior garbage can. The flames grew quickly up to the roof's overhang. One of the light fixtures was partiallymelted. Luckily a good samaritan stopped and pulled the garbage can away from the building after the teens had left. Since the airing of the video, a suspect has been identified and the case is being forwarded to the District Attorney's office.
