Board to consider rural Comprehensive Plan and Transportation System Plan on August 25 Contact: Mike Pullen, Communications Office, 503-209-4111, mike.j.pullen@multco.us After nearly two years in the making, the Board of County Commissioners will take up adoption of a new Multnomah County Comprehensive Plan and Transportation System Plan (TSP). The Board will hold a public hearing to take testimony about the Plans on August 25, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 100, Multnomah Building, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland. The Comprehensive Plan and TSP are the products of extensive input from an appointed Community Advisory Committee that worked on the documents for nearly 18 months. The Committee’s primary role was to draft policies on key rural land use topics such as farm and forest lands, agri-tourism, rural centers, environmental protection and natural hazards. Their work also included transportation policies and prioritizing projects to improve the County’s rural transportation system. The policies contained in the Comprehensive Plan and TSP establish the regulatory framework that will shape the physical development and transportation decisions for rural areas of the County for many years to come. The new, updated Comprehensive Plan will replace the current Plan that is now nearly forty years old. It also incorporates the Rural Area Plans for the County’s four rural planning areas that were adopted over the years. The TSP will replace several rural transportation plans that were adopted in conjunction with past Rural Area Plans. Copies of the two planning documents can be found online at https://multco.us/landuse/comprehensive-plan-update along with other information about the plan update process.
