Corbett Oregon is located between the Sandy River and Crown Point on the Columbia River Historic Highway. We are at the mouth of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge twenty miles east of Portland on the way to Hood River.

It is the goal of the web site to encourage participation and community by providing a local online hub for Corbett. Please don’t hesitate to contact the web site if you have any questions, comments or suggestions!

Corbett Chess Tournament Fundraiser

“I’m hosting a chess tournament to raise money for the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund. The tournament will be held in the Corbett High School Commons, on February 18, 2012. In 2006, my sister, Nina Morrison, died of Fanconi anemia, a life-threatening genetic disease. The Fanconi Anemia Research Fund (FARF) works to find the cure for FA. All proceeds from the chess tournament and concession sales will go to FARF, so please donate and help save the lives of the hundreds of other kids around the world with FA. The Corbett Boosters’ 6th Annual Red & Black auction and dinner is slated for Saturday, March 10, 2012. If you’ve attended Corbett’s premiere sports’ fundraiser in the past, you’ve seen how the event has grown. If this will be your first year attending, we hope you enjoy the excitement of the evening and the incredible sense of pride we have in our athletes and athletic programs.

Citizen Patrol

The Citizen Patrol is a trained group of volunteers organized to increase the safety and livability in the Columbia River Gorge.

They walk and drive their neighborhood streets, parks, schools and businesses to report problems and to deter crime. They may be seen assisting a deputy with traffic control or assisting at a community event. They wear identifiable clothing and a photo ID card issued by the Sheriff’s Office. Members have successfully passed background checks and a screening process with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. They take an active role in assisting law enforcement by patrolling areas with a partner and focusing on locations with known problems. One of their primary missions is to deter vehicle break-ins at popular tourist destinations, in parking lots and at trailheads. Many of the members are also N.E.R.T. (Neighborhood Emergency Response Team) members that have been trained in disaster preparedness and emergency response. The team generally meets for training three times per year. The Multnomah Falls Lodge, the Springdale Job Corps and the Corbett Fire Department have all graciously hosted some of our training meetings.

The Corbett Connector is an excellent community blog created by Michelle Smith of Corbett Oregon. She spends time interviewing Corbett residents and then posts what she learns for the community to read and learn from. There are some wonderful write ups on those in our community and Michelle is doing a great job helping to both document the history of Corbett but also sharing with everyone information about the young leaders going out into the world from Corbett. Due to dramatic reductions in state funding for K-12 education, the Corbett School District, like every district in Oregon, is facing a significant budget shortfall next year (estimated at ~$575K based on current state funding projections). in response, the CSD is considering a number of options for managing this shortfall ranging from deep cuts in existing personnel and programs to bringing in new revenue by, for example, expanding the existing charter school or initiating alternative programs. Notably, the district has chosen not to consider placing an operating levy on the spring ballot as an alternate source of revenue.. [ Read More here ]

Multnomah Co. Rural Fire Protection District #14

Bordered by the Sandy and Columbia Rivers to the west and north, and by Clackamas County to the south, our District covers a 40 square mile area of eastern Multnomah County. It includes parts of the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area, Oregon State and National Parks and forest lands, as well as the unincorporated communities of Corbett, Springdale, Aims, Latourell and Bridal Veil. Providing fire, rescue, and emergency services since 1949, we have one of the largest all-volunteer forces of firefighters in the State. The Department works out of three unmanned fire stations located in Corbett, Springdale and Aims.
